WhatsApp’s latest update has been speculated to allow users to track their friends’ locations, and receive notification when anyone changes a status. Users will even receive a notification from the chat service if their devices battery is low, in case they forget to look at their battery status that is right above the screen.

For now, WhatsApp has been speculated to work on the notification feature, while the track feature might come with the latest update. WABetaInfor, a feature leaker of the service, leaked the notification feature in the process by the chat service.

The messaging application will allow users to check live locations of their friends. The leaks say that the feature will come with WhatsApp beta version 2.17.3.28 for iOS and 2.16.399+ for Android. The feature can also be disabled if users do not want to use it. Phonearena said on Monday, “The tracking can be kept on for 1 to 5 minutes or indefinitely. This comes in handy if you are supposed to meet the gang at a certain location and time, and you want to see how far away from the destination everyone in the group is.”

As if the ‘last seen’ feature of the service was not enough, now users certainly cannot give a harmless white lie that they are five minutes away, since their friends will be able to track them and know their whereabouts.

The live streaming feature can also be disabled if one does not wish to disclose the locations to friends. The beta version has one handy feature that was added recently on the service, which enabled users to edit messages that they have already sent. WhatsApp seems to be upping its game every now and then.
