Try Android Wear 2.0 on your smartwatch now with this simple tutorial
Yesterday, Google created rifts with several announced at Google I/O, where one of the most notable announcements was about Google’s smartwatch platform, Android Wear. While Google’s VP Engineering David Singleton calls it the “biggest platform update yet,” the newly announced Android Wear 2.0 features numerous functional and visual additions and changes. The developer preview is up for grabs from Google’s Developer website. It can be installed on your Android Wear device right now. Here’s how:
Supported Android Wear smartwatch: LG Watch Urbane 2 or Huawei Watch Smartwatch battery charged to at least 70%. Working ADB installation. Download tool here. Android Wear 2.0 firmware file. DL: Huawei Watch or LG Watch Urbane 2
Note: Please ensure to back up all the data from your smartwatch as it will be wiped during this operation.
Step 1: Download and install Minimal ADB and Fastboot along with the USB drivers for your smartwatch.
Step 2: Next, you need to enable ADB debugging on your smartwatch. Navigate to Settings > About. Tap on the build number entry 7 times to enable Developer Options. Navigate to Settings > Developer Options and enable ADB debugging.
Step 3: Download and unzip the firmware file to the install location of Minimal ADB and Fastboot.
Step 4: Connect the charger to the watch and the computer using a USB data cable.
Step 5: Open Minimal ADB and Fastboot. First, you need to verify if the watch is detected. Execute the following command to do it: adb devices
Step 6: If you see a device listed, you need to unlock the bootloader of your device to flash the firmware file. Reboot the device into bootloader mode with the following command: adb reboot bootloader
Step 7: Unlock the bootloader by trying one of these commands. For some devices, the first is applicable and the second for others. fastboot flashing unlock or fastboot oem unlock
Step 8: Once the process completes and the bootloader of the device is unlocked, you can finally flash the firmware on your smartwatch. To do it, enter: flash-all.bat
The firmware will be flashed onto your smartwatch and it will subsequently boot running the Android Wear 2.0 Developer Preview.
